About TRY Fitness

TRY Fitness is a workout tracker and nutrition log for people who lift weights. It is made by TRY Health LLC, a small company in Missouri, and runs on iPhone and Android.

You log every set, and the app keeps your full training history, works out a target for your next set from your own recent ones, and logs what you eat from a sentence, a photo or a barcode. Groups of friends can put real money behind a weekly workout goal. The free version covers all of your training log; the nutrition side, the targets and the AI features are part of TRY Pro.

What TRY Fitness does

The free version covers your whole training log. Features marked Pro are part of TRY Pro; the AI ones come with a few free tries first.

The whole app

One app for lifting and food

Lifting and food in one place, on one subscription, charted the same way.

Training

Workout logging

Log sets, reps, weight and how hard each set felt (RIR or RPE), with supersets, drop sets and circuits. Unlimited, with your full history and PRs, on the free version.

Next-set targets

Every set shows a target weight and reps worked out from your own recent sets, tuned by a fatigue profile unique to you. Hit it, beat it or adjust it, and the next target follows what you actually did. (Pro)

Paste any program

Paste a program from anywhere — a coach, Reddit, a spreadsheet, a chat with an AI assistant — and train from it, with the exercises, sets, reps and supersets carried over. (Pro, after a few free tries)

AI program builder

Describe your goal, your days and your gym, and get a full program built around the equipment you actually have. (Pro, after a few free tries)

Free program analyzer

Real structural analysis of any program, free, with no account, at tryhealth.io/analyze.

Written vs performed

The analysis grades the program you wrote and, separately, what you actually logged.

Where the volume really goes

Each exercise states what it actually trains and in what proportion, so your weekly volume lands on the muscles that really did the work.

Muscle map

Days since you last trained each muscle, at a glance.

Rest timer

A rest timer runs between sets and still alerts you when your phone is locked.

Apple Watch app

Follow your workout and your rest timer from your Apple Watch.

YouTube tutorials

Every exercise plays YouTube’s top tutorial videos without leaving the app, where the best form tips live. Flip to the next one, or paste your favorite and save it as that exercise’s default.

Progress

Strength index

Every lift averaged into one trend line you can read at any range, from a month to everything. (Pro)

Strength trend per muscle

A separate strength trend for every muscle group, ranked, so a stall is visible. (Pro)

Cut and bulk markers

The charts mark the day a cut or bulk started, so a flat stretch shows up as part of a phase instead of looking like a failure.

Exercise history

Every exercise keeps its own history, session by session. Tap a session to include or exclude it from the trend, and filter by gym and by equipment.

Nutrition (Pro)

Speak a meal

Log a whole meal by saying one sentence, instead of searching for one item at a time. Typing it or taking a photo works too.

Barcode scanning

Scan a packaged food’s barcode to log it.

Adaptive maintenance calories

Maintenance calories are worked out from your own logged intake and weight, and keep updating as they change.

Intake vs target chart

Charts what you actually ate against the target you were aiming for, every day you have logged.

Real Food Score

Food quality is scored and charted alongside the macros, over months, so two days with the same macros don’t look identical when one of them came out of a packet.

Gyms and equipment

Every gym’s own equipment

Set what each gym actually has, and never be programmed something that isn’t there.

History per machine

Each exercise-and-equipment pair keeps its own history and its own targets, so the same lift on two different machines never gets mixed up.

Swap for what’s free

When a machine is taken, swap the exercise for one that fits the equipment your gym has.

Groups and friends

Money-backed groups

Two to five people each put a deposit behind a weekly workout goal. The deposit is held, never kept: if anyone misses, everyone’s stays held into the next week until a successful week releases it. The first two weeks need no subscription.

Step goals

A group can back a daily step goal instead, counted from Apple Health, with real money behind it.

Share and train with friends

Share a finished session as a card over your own photo, see which friends are training right now, and send Hype that lands live while they’re mid-workout. Friends can share and import each other’s templates too.

What makes TRY Fitness different

Lifting and food in one app, on one subscription

The usual setup is a lifting app plus a separate food app: two subscriptions, and two sets of data that never meet. TRY does both and charts them the same way, so a cut and a strength trend sit on the same timeline.

Your whole history, kept in one place

Your complete training history and PRs are free with no expiry, so changing what you train for — a strength block, a cut, a bulk — never means changing apps and starting over.

Targets come from your own sets

Targets are worked out from your recent performance on that exact exercise and equipment, and they re-tune when you move an exercise to a different point in your workout.

A real program analyzer, free, with no account

Anyone can check a program before committing weeks to it, without signing up for anything.

Volume counted where it really lands

Each exercise states which muscles it trains and in what proportion, so your weekly volume per muscle reflects what the lift actually works rather than one label per exercise.

Real accountability, with real consequences

A reminder or a streak is easy to ignore. In an accountability group, you and up to four other people each put real money behind a weekly goal, and if anyone misses, everyone’s deposit stays held until the group gets a successful week in. Your money is on the line, and so is everyone else’s.

Who TRY Fitness is for

Who makes TRY Fitness

TRY Fitness is built by TRY Health LLC, a small company in Missouri, founded by Jacob Hotchkiss. The app was first published on the App Store in June 2026.

I built TRY because I was sick of needing a new app for every season of lifting I was in, and then losing all my data when I switched apps. I wanted an extremely affordable, all-in-one fitness app that gave me every feature I’ve ever wanted, including the cleanest, most useful data that I could keep forever in one place.
